Host Families

Become a Host Family

The Lions Youth Camp and Exchange Program for youths 15-18 has been running for 60 years,
and is made possible by everyday people. This incredible program allows youths from all over the world
to experience new cultures, experiences and ways of life.

Click Here: For more informations on what the Lions Youth Camp and Exchange Program is.

Are you interested in learning about other cultures and ways of life while sharing your own customs and experiences?
Are open-mindedness, tolerance and cultural competence of high importance to you?
Do you have a desire to contribute towards peace, international understanding and the creation of global citizenship in youth? If you answered yes to any of these questions, you may enjoy being a host family!

When Would I Host?

The Waterton Lions Leadership Camp is seeking a number of host families for a 1 week commitment
this summer to help keep this incredible program running!

You will host 1-2 international youths and show them the best parts about our province and Canadian life!

There are three different periods you can choose to host from this coming  2022 camp season: two before camp and one after.

Period 1: July 9th-16th 2022 Before Camp - Includes picking your camper up from the airport upon their arrival.
Period 2: July 16th-24th 2022 Before Camp - Includes dropping your camper off at the bus that will take them to camp.
Period 3: July 29th- August 6th 2022 After Camp - Includes taking your camper to the airport to return home.

Typical Week

During a typical week of hosting you will get to have the unique experience of being a tourist in your own province! There's an endless supply of activities and events you can take part in during this week. Hosting will also allow you the unique privilege to connect with other host families in Alberta and make life long lasting connections with other Albertans. We have a Facebook group specifically for host families to get to know each other, plan events together and chat!

During your week hosting you will be responsible for the transportation, room and board, and general wellbeing
of your students. We strive to ensure all youths have the best possible experience while they are with us.
You will also be required to have a vulnerable sector check completed before your students arrive.
We have a volunteer letter you can use to have this done at no cost.

You can view the official Lions Host Family Handbook by clicking here. This handbook highlights
exactly what is expected of a host family through the Lions Youth International Exchange Program.

We encourage host families to plan events together for the best possible experience.
Below you will be able to see a list of common activities our previous host families have done with their campers.
